GIOVANNI MIANI. THE WHITE LION OF THE NILE

The fascinating spring event at Palazzo Roncale is “Giovanni Miani. The White Lion of the Nile”. For the first time, the story of a nineteenth-century Indiana Jones, the man who devoted his life to discovering the sources of the Nile, is the subject of an exhibition. The exhibition is the brainchild of Sergio Campagnolo, 150 years after the death of the explorer, and is curated by Mauro Varotto, Professor of Geography at the Department of History, Geography and Antiquity at the University of Padua and the Rector’s Delegate for Museums and Collections at the University of Padua, and Alessia Vedova, Head of the Artistic Heritage and Exhibition Events Office of the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Padova e Rovigo, which is promoting the exhibition. Between history, geography and ethnography, the exhibition intends to tell the story of this restless and unconventional character, of indomitable courage and iron will, a lover of risk and adventure, an unfortunate pursuer of great ideals and social redemption.
